Relationships

We are all relational beings.

Relationships contribute to our biggest joys and our greatest struggles. At Laurel Family Therapy Group, our focus is to provide styles of therapy that support healing of all “systems.”

We fundamentally believe that our connections with others shape how we feel, think, and behave; it impacts our entire existence. Focusing on relationships in therapy helps our clients understand how past experiences, current interactions, and personal beliefs affect the way they connect with those around them. By exploring and reconnecting, therapy not only offers a chance to heal relationships, but to feel more understood as an individual. In short, focusing on relationships in therapy helps our clients build better relationships with themselves and others, which is key to living a fulfilling life. Because after all, every human desires some type of connection.

Family

We provide family therapy how the founders of family therapy intended: recognizing that no one person is to blame; rather, the entire family system contributes to the presenting challenge.

We provide a family therapy style that many “systems” are ready for, but they may have no idea that this therapeutic style exists. When we meet with a family, we are approaching the “system" (2 or more people in the therapy room) as one unit. This means that there is no blaming one person, no pointing fingers at the “problem person.” This is a courageous and extremely transformational approach for all members. It empowers each individual to make steps towards more honesty, trust, and connection. Families or “systems” who participate in this therapeutic style share stories with us months after the therapy has concluded of positive changes that continue to impact everyone.

The Systemic Approach

Non-Couple Relationships

Collaboration

As “systems” therapists, we understand that our clients find the most healing when we collaborate with the greater healing system in our community.

We believe that true healing happens when we work together. That’s why we collaborate with other dedicated healing professionals in our community - equine therapy, massage, reiki, doctors, psychiatrists, you name it!

We understand that it takes a village to help an individual or system fully heal. By collaborating with these professionals, we create a supportive network that addresses all aspects of well-being, providing a more holistic and effective path to healing. Together, we’re stronger, and together, we can help our clients create their own village that they’ve always been wanting.

Team Approach

While we focus on supporting individuals and relationships in our community, we also support one another as a team to maintain a therapeutic environment for all.

At Laurel Family Therapy Group, we believe in the power of teamwork. With five licensed professionals working together, we combine our expertise and perspectives to create a stronger, more effective support system for our clients. When more minds come together, we can approach each system from multiple angles, offering a well-rounded approach to healing. Our collective experience spans a wide range of topics, including addictions, postpartum, pregnancy, anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, infidelity, LGBTQ, marriage/long-term partnership, parenting, and grief. By collaborating, we ensure that clients receive the best care that is tailored to their unique needs.

'“Once a human being has arrived on this earth, communication is the largest single factor determining what kinds of relationships he makes with others and what happens to him in the world about him.”
